Writing this review has been a bit of a dilemma for me because my feelings about Tulum are a mixed bag. I was absolutely thrilled to visit Tulum and had meticulously planned my trip, eager to share the details with my clients. I craved the complete Tulum experience, and I must say, I had an experience…

My journey began with a flight into Cancun, followed by a two-hour drive to Tulum. Here's a tip: make sure to tend to all personal needs before leaving the airport because finding a comfortable stop along the way can be a bit challenging. Upon arriving at the stunning Hilton Tulum Riviera Maya, I received a warm welcome. The hotel is nestled in a secluded bay with breathtaking views of the water, although the beach access wasn't quite what I had expected. While I was a tad disappointed that I couldn't simply lounge on the beach, the view was undeniably picturesque.

I initially rented a car with plans to explore Tulum independently, but some fellow travelers and a few staff members advised against it, and I took their words seriously. This did put a slight damper on my plans, but I opted for a private driver as a safety precaution and embarked on some island exploration on the first day. On the second day, my driver took me to the Mayan Ruins. It was scorching hot, crowded, wet from the morning rain, and quite a trek, but I made it and relished the experience of visiting such a historic site. Unfortunately, the following day brought a storm, so I treated myself to a day at the spa. And guess what? I fell ill for the next two days, bringing my Tulum adventure to an early end so I enjoyed my beautiful room and loads or room service. I recuperated, hopped in my rental car and drove back to Cancun, where I stayed in a charming beachfront hotel and finally reveled in the beautiful white sands with the wind in my hair. The next morning, I headed back home, with a bit of my wanderlust satisfactorily fulfilled.

In summary, my Tulum experience was a mixed one. Yet, Tulum offers an enchanting blend of nature, culture, and luxury, making it a top-notch destination. If you're seeking relaxation on a gorgeous beach and indulgence in pampering, I highly recommend Tulum. However, if you're in search of adventures beyond your hotel, my advice is to exercise caution and remain acutely aware of your surroundings and interactions.

Pros:

1. Spectacular Beaches: Tulum boasts some of the most stunning beaches in the world, with powdery white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters. Whether you're looking to relax, swim, or soak up the sun, these beaches offer a paradise-like setting.

2. Rich Cultural Heritage: Tulum is home to ancient Mayan ruins perched on cliffs overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Exploring these archaeological wonders provides a fascinating glimpse into Mexico's pre-Columbian history and offers breathtaking photo opportunities.

3. Bohemian Vibes: The town of Tulum itself has a bohemian and eco-friendly atmosphere. You'll find trendy boutiques, yoga retreats, and charming restaurants nestled amidst lush greenery. It's perfect for those seeking a laid-back, holistic experience.

Cons:

1. Crowds and High Prices: Tulum's popularity has led to an influx of tourists, especially during peak seasons. This can result in crowded beaches and higher prices for accommodations and activities. It's wise to plan ahead and book in advance.

2. Limited Infrastructure: Tulum's eco-conscious approach means limited infrastructure, including basic amenities like reliable public transportation. Renting a car or using taxis is often necessary, which can add to your expenses.

3. Sargassum Seaweed: Depending on the time of year, Tulum's beaches may be affected by sargassum seaweed. While efforts are made to clean it up, it's something to consider if you're particular about pristine shorelines.
